I Heart the ISS: Ten Reasons to Love the International Space Station
International Cooperation. Didn't your heart swell with pride for the Europeans when the Columbus science module finally became part of the station this week? And you gotta love the Canadians for their reliable, heavy-duty Canadarm 2. The Russians have been steady partners in station construction and re-supply for years now. Japan's science lab will be added on the next shuttle mission. The ISS is the largest, most complex, international engineering project in history. In a world where violence and political animosity floods the daily news, it's incredible that this structure is quietly being built by 16 different countries working together in relative harmony. If not for the international partners, the ISS probably wouldn't have gotten off the ground. NASA Administrator Mike Griffin has said that the station's most enduring legacy is the international partnership that created it.
Political Insider
But on Thursday, Anderson may have picked up some bipartisan support. Before the governor spoke, state Sen. Regina Thomas of Savannah, a Democrat, told the crowd to expect "the status quo" after the dust has settled. Permalink | Comments (0) | Post your comment | The latest non-endorsement news from Isakson, Chambliss Thursday, January 31, 2008, 03:20 PM The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Contrary to reports from CNN, U.S. Sens. Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss didn't endorse Republican presidential candidate John McCain, or anyone else, on Thursday. The cable network had predicted the alliance, after several political blogs, included one by the Washington Post, had quoted U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, a McCain ally, as saying he was in the midst of lobbying both Isakson and Chambliss.
Trouble in pews of S.F.'s Glide Memorial Church
Glide Memorial isn't just a San Francisco church. For over 44 years, it's been a rollicking Sunday morning gospel jam session, an A-list celebrity drop-by (Sen. Dianne Feinstein was at the 9 a.m. service last Sunday)and a must-see tourist stop. But lately, there have been rumors of trouble in the pews. Longtime supporters reluctantly admit that some of them are experiencing a crisis of faith. "It's very sad to see," said Thomas Harris, a former member of the Glide Foundation board of directors who is an executive with Genentech Inc., who has left the church, "but I knew it was going to unravel at some point." At issue is the concern that has been looming over the multimillion-dollar operation (a 2004 Chronicle story pegged the annual budget at $11.9 million) for almost eight years: Who will replace the church's legendary founder and spiritual guru, the Rev.

Northern exposure might help Flames in playoffs
Horace Greeley was not an American Hockey League fan.Greeley is the newspaper editor who famously uttered the phrase: "Go West, young man."Still, in terms of joining the AHL playoff field, might not the young men on the Quad-City Flames be better served by going North instead?Where the playoffs are concerned, the Flames say the only correct answer simply is to go."As long as you get your foot in the door, that’s the most important thing," center Krys Kolanos said. "Then it’s a whole new season."With 21 games remaining in the season, the Flames find themselves in a spirited race for a spot in the Western Conference postseason field. The Flames are part of a three-team tie for fifth in the West Division, and likely would cross over to play in the North Division playoff field if they can claim that No.
The Copper Outlook
Now if Copper can trade past 3.80 for 21 days then its virtually a given that it will go on put in a several new highs and should then challenge the 4.20 price point level before pulling back. In this long term 10 year chart we find that the 2.90 price point level also provides a major zone of support; this is a separate confirmation from a very long term chart. Traders can now start to look for stocks that have pulled back in this sector; for those looking for big gains perform trend analysis and focus on the small names. Final note This long term chart is indicating that in the mid term time frames China could experience what amounts to a minor recession. Thus copper could find support say at present level and rally all the way to the 3.80-4.10 ranges but then experience a hard pull back.
